Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)

Quincy University offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree, the entry level degree for individuals who wish to become licensed physical therapists.  In our hybrid DPT program students will be exposed to didactic and laboratory education throughout seven (7) semesters.  The majority of course work will occur online, with a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous courses. Students will be on campus 2 times per semester for lab intensives.  Clinical Internships will begin in semester five (5).

QU PT Program outcomes:

1.Graduates will possess entry-level knowledge and clinical skills for autonomous clinical practice.

2.Graduates will practice in a safe, professional, ethical, and legal manner consistent with Franciscan values.

3. Graduates will remain committed to the program, as well as to excellence, leadership, and service.

 

The Doctor of Physical Therapy is considered a professional clinical doctorate degree program.  Applications for this program should be submitted through the Physical Therapist Central Application Service (PTCAS).

 

Admission: There are two pathways (1) Direct Admit for matriculating freshmen and (2) Standard Admit for students who have earned a bachelor’s degree.

 

Direct Admit

This program targets matriculating freshmen. Requirements for application into the Direct Admit program are:

  • Currently a high school senior applying to QU

  • Declared major in one of the following:

    • Biological Science- Pre-Physical therapy

    • Exercise Science- Pre-Physical therapy

  • Minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.0

  • Documented clinical observation hours in at least two (2) different physical therapy practice settings (ie. orthopedic, inpatient, outpatient, wound care, home health)

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation

  • Virtual or in-person interview

 

 

Once accepted as a Direct Admit, students must:

  • Maintain a prerequisite GPA equal to 3.0, or higher in all of the following courses:

    • Anatomy and physiology- 8 semester hours (with lab)
    • Chemistry I and II - 8 semester hours (with lab)
    • Physics I and II - 8 semester hours (with lab)
    • Statistics - 3 semester hours
    • Biology - 8 semester hours (with lab)
    • Psychology/human development - 3 semester hours
  • QU record must be clear of academic and/or behavioral warnings


Standard Admit

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Completion of the following prerequisite courses with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher:

    • Anatomy and physiology- 8 semester hours (with lab)

    • Chemistry I and II - 8 semester hours (with lab)

    • Physics I and II - 8 semester hours (with lab)

    • Statistics - 3 semester hours

    • Biology - 8 semester hours (with lab)

    • Psychology/human development - 3 semester hours

  • Documented clinical observation hours in at least two (2) different physical therapy practice settings (ie. orthopedic, inpatient, outpatient, wound care, home health)

  • Personal Essay

  • Two (2) letters of recommendation

  • Completed application submitted via PTCAS.

  • Virtual or in-person interview
