Mathmatics Teacher Licensure, BS

Advanced Placement Opportunity:

CLEP examinations are available in College Algebra; however, credit by examination in these introductory courses does not necessarily fulfill entrance requirements for advanced mathematics courses. Therefore, students should consult with the Dean of Science & Technology for proper placement.

Program Requirements:

  1. Completion of the Bonaventure Program and requirements for undergraduate degrees.
  2. Students must take either PHY 223 - Principles of Physics I  or PHY 211 - Fundamentals of Physics I  to fulfill their Bonaventure Program requirement in the physical sciences. PHY 223  is the preferred course.
  3. Students need a Cumulative Major GPA of 2.0 and no more than 2 major courses below a C to receive a degree. Major courses are all courses listed in section G of the degree checklist.

MAT 440  is strongly recommended for students intending to pursue graduate work.

Required Support Courses:


It is recommended that these be taken within the first two years.

Teacher Licensure Program:


Math majors requesting licensure as secondary education teachers are required to take MAT 300 , MAT 400 , and to meet the requirements for licensure (see Education).

Majors seeking secondary licensure must take MAT 300 , MAT 400 , and 6 additional hours of mathematics electives at the 200-400 level. MAT 353  and MAT 380  are recommended for majors seeking secondary licensure.

Majors seeking secondary licensure must earn grades of “C” or better in courses applicable to the major.
