Program Requirements:
- An audition before the music faculty. All incoming students planning to major in music or music education or minor in music must complete this audition before being accepted as a music major or minor.
- All students must take a placement exam in music theory for either the major or minor.
- All music and music education majors must enroll in Concert Attendance (MUS 70 ) every semester until they pass five semesters.
- All music and music education majors must take applied piano every semester until they complete piano proficiency.
- All music and music education majors must complete the Music Proficiency process with a passing grade before being admitted to upper-level courses in the major.
- Students need a cumulative Major GPA of 2.0 and and C or better in all major courses to receive a degree.
- Supplementary information about program requirements is contained in the Music Program Handbook for Students, which can be obtained from music advisors.

Instrumental or Vocal Music Concentration:
- Completion of the Bonaventure Program and requirements for undergraduate degrees.
- Music and music education majors will fulfill the University technological literacy requirement through successful completion of MUS 313 - Orchestration and Arranging .
- 14 credit hours of applied music lessons on one instrument or voice (major).
- Required performances: Recitals during junior (MUS 399 ) and senior (MUS 499 ) years in the major applied field. Six additional public performances as a soloist in faculty approved concerts.
- Attendance at designated recitals and concerts at the University or in the community.
- Those whose major performing medium is voice must take MUS 219 .
- Music ensembles.
Instrumental Concentration: 8 credit hours Symphonic Band
Vocal Concentration: 8 credit hours Concert Choir
- The senior recital and recital paper constitute the required comprehensive experience.
