CYB 101 - Codes and Ciphers

This course introduces cipher systems ranging from the earliest and most elementary to the most recent and more complex. Security issues and possible methods of attack with illustrative examples will be discussed. Topics include substitution ciphers, the Vigenere cipher, and transposition ciphers. Statistical methods in cryptanalysis and public-key cryptography will also be introduced. Applications of ciphers during wartime will be presented using the examples of Enigma, Hagelin, and ciphers used by spies.
